Black College Gear was created because of the lack of opportunities to purchase Historically Black Colleges and University apparel. While at work I received an email form management letting us know Friday will be college day, and they would like for us to wear our schools shirts. After work I drove to a local mall to find my school’s cap and shirt. To my amazement I could not find one PVAMU shirt or cap. I found this to be strange being in Houston and only 30 minuets away from Prairie View A&M. I traveled to another mall that is even closer to the school, knowing for sure I would be able to find a shirt or at least cap there, but again I was disappointed. Later that evening I got home and did a little Google search for a PV cap and T –Shirt and the only thing that came up was for PV bookstore that sold only one type of T-Shirt and no caps. I dug a little deeper and found out this applied to the majority of all the HBCU Schools. I found that there are major manufactures that make the products but they are not available to the general public. This when I decided to create Black College Gear. Why shouldn’t there be a place to get your HBCU Apparel? Well now it is!
